How to Issue Vouchers as a Reward Action
The Rule Engine now supports Vouchers (Gift Cards) as a direct reward type. Instead of just issuing points, you can configure a rule to automatically send a specific Gift Card to the member's email when they meet the criteria.
Prerequisites
Before configuring a voucher rule, ensure that:
- Marketplace Integration is Active: Your program must be connected to the Marketplace (e.g., Plum/Xoxoday).
- Admin Email is Configured: You must enter a valid Admin Email in Program Settings > Marketplace. This is required to fetch the voucher inventory.
- Member Email is Valid: Vouchers are delivered via email. If a member does not have an email address, the voucher cannot be issued.
Step 1: Create a Rule Group with Voucher Reward
- The decision to issue Points vs. Vouchers happens at the Rule Group level.
- Navigate to Rule Engine > Rule Groups.
- Click Create New Rule Group.
- Enter the Group Name and Validity dates.
- Reward Action: Select Voucher from the dropdown.
Important: Once selected, this cannot be changed. If you need to switch back to Points later, you must create a new Rule Group.
Step 2: Configure the Voucher Rule
- Open your new Rule Group and click Add Rule.
- Set your conditions (e.g., Transaction Amount > $500).
- Scroll to Reward Configuration. You will see live dropdowns fetched from the Marketplace:
- Voucher Category: Select a category (e.g., Food & Dining).
- Voucher Name: Choose the specific brand/card.
- Denomination: Enter the value. The system validates this against the allowed min/max range.
- Quantity: Fixed at 1 per transaction.
- Click Save.
How it Works
- When a transaction matches the rule:
- Inventory Check: The system verifies the voucher is in stock.
- Issuance: The voucher is emailed directly to the member.
- Transaction Log: Two records are created in the member's history:
- Accrual: 0 Points (for tracking).
- Redemption: 0 Points (Debit), with the Voucher Name in the description.
🚧 Troubleshooting
- Out of Stock: If a voucher is unavailable, the transaction will fail, and the system will alert the Admin via email. The rule remains active, but no vouchers are issued until you update the rule with an in-stock item.
- No Reversals: Unlike points, issued vouchers cannot be reversed or cancelled.
